Is the Ramapo the Jersey Tomato? There really is/was no one variety of "Jersey Tomato". It may be something about our soils and/or climate, but we do grow some great tasting tomatoes. New Jersey farmers grew a number of old flavorful varieties that when picked vine-ripened, had that delicious balance of acid/sweet taste that the Jersey Tomato is remembered for. Rutgers NJAES has been conducting taste tests for several years to determine which varieties capture the old time flavor. We'll have more information on this site on recommended varieties and factors influencing tomato flavor. |
